Meet John Brunty!

Hi, my name is John, and I'm from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I am the proud father of two dogs, Nell and Stella. 

I graduated with a BA degree from the University of South Carolina, and have lived in New York City, Prague and Charleston, SC, before moving to my current town, Columbia, SC.

My sobriety date is September 30, 2003. Every day has been a gift and I believe my purpose is to serve the person I once was.  I am also a certified peer support specialist and recovery coach. Working one on one with people, taking them to their first meeting, guiding them through their own program is what I enjoy the most.

I have supported people struggling with alcoholism, drug addiction, compulsive spending, compulsive eating, mental health issues and everyday life challenges. I have worked on many levels with adolescents and adults from low self-esteem to addictions to mental health struggles.   

I have owned various businesses since 2005. Entrepreneurship has allowed me to experience epic failures and great successes. I sold my last business, a successful restaurant, in January, 2023.  Throughout my ups and downs, I remained sober. 

Recovery has taught me to love myself unconditionally and I want that for my clients as well. My greatest talent is that I am an excellent listener. I remember what people say and hold them accountable. I inspire people to be their greatest while they are going through this process.

I enjoy walking my dogs in the morning and afternoon, then taking myself on a long evening stroll. I go through waves of wanting to cook and read books. I have not stopped my addiction to crime tv shows or action movies. I look forward to working with you, someone you care about or your client.
